Thailand marked a major advancement in the global stem cell treatment landscape today with the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving leading research institutions, hospitals, and biotech companies from both Thailand and Singapore. This agreement centers on the development of cutting-edge mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapies aimed at treating solid tumors and other medical conditions. The collaboration reinforces Thailand’s role as a premier hub for regenerative medicine and medical tourism in the region.
The MoU was signed between the following key organizations involved in stem cell research and advanced therapy development:
• Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR)
• Kluaynamthai Hospital (KNT)
• AGeM Bio Pte Ltd, Singapore
• Vega Wellness Co., Ltd., Thailand
The aim of this international collaboration is to research, develop, and commercialize engineered mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapies targeting a variety of clinical conditions, with a particular focus on cancer, especially solid tumors. This initiative aligns with the rising demand for personalized medicine, biologic treatments, and cutting-edge regenerative therapies.
The MoU specifies the following key areas of collaboration to fast-track the development and implementation of advanced cell therapy solutions:
Thailand has long been recognized for its excellence in medical tourism and cosmetic surgery. This MoU further strengthens the country’s position as a leading destination for biotechnology and stem cell therapy, offering international patients access to high-quality, scientifically backed, and cost-effective regenerative treatments.
While the MoU is non-binding in its overall scope, it contains legally binding provisions related to intellectual property (IP), confidentiality, and data protection. Each research and clinical initiative under the collaboration will be governed by individual Project Agreements, all of which will be subject to regulatory review and adherence to clinical trial ethics.
The agreement is set to remain in effect for an initial term of three years, with provisions for renewal and potential expansion into additional advanced therapeutic platforms in the future.
This strategic partnership is part of a larger regional effort to position Southeast Asia—particularly Thailand—as a hub for stem cell innovation, biotech manufacturing, and medical exports. The collaborating institutions are united in their commitment to establishing Thailand as a key player in the rapidly growing global regenerative medicine market, which is projected to surpass USD 150 billion by 2030.
